Brothers Michael and Stefan Unterweger – the fourth generation of the same family to run the business – have created a charming adventure area on the grounds of the pine oil factory established in 1886 by another pair of brothers, Johann and Ignaz Unterweger, who themselves were innovators in the own right. While Johann stayed at home in East Tirol to look after the business, Ignaz travelled the world visiting trade fairs and exhibitions to promote the health benefits of this oil extracted from the Pinus mugo, a pinewood bush growing at high altitudes. Today the brand "Brüder Unterweger – Erste Tiroler Latschenölbrennerei" is a global player in the essential oils market and exports this soothing balm to 38 countries around the world.
