Bernd Mühlmann comes from one of the most remote places in Tirol, the Villgratental Valley, and has founded a label there which uses fine materials and clean lines to create timeless fashion.
Even by Tirolean standards, the Villgratental Valley in East Tirol is pretty remote. Good job that Bernd Mühlmann's has his flagship store in the somewhat larger and more accessible city of Innsbruck, in the old town's Seilergasse to be precise. Nevertheless, the beautiful Villgratental Valley is always worth a visit – and is here that Bernd Mühlmann and his label "Mühlmann – handmade in the Alps" are at home.
Like a second skin
Designer and owner Bernd Mühlmann creates limited edition clothing for discerning gentlemen and ladies, with most of the items produced in his own workshop in East Tirol and a number of pieces sourced from a factory in Bosnia aimed at reintegrating disadvantaged members of society into the working environment. Mühlmann's designs are characterised by fine materials, clean lines and timeless elegance which suits men and women of all ages and fits like a second skin.
Like so many companies in Tirol, Mühlmann was founded in 1964 as a one-man show. Business boomed after the workshop first opened in 1964, leading trained tailor Hermann Mühlmann to employ an apprentice. This apprentice, Paula, would go on to become Frau Mühlmann. In the 2000s, son Bernd took over the running of the workshop from his parents and founded his own fashion label in 2008.
