With gently rolling terrain and few steep hills, Lake Achensee Region is renowned as one of the best places in Tirol to enjoy adaptive cross country skiing. The resorts of Pertisau, Maurach and Achenkirch offer 46.1 kilometers of specially designated cross country ski tracks for people with disabilities.
Lessons are available from highly trained and experienced adaptive cross country ski instructors at the Pertisau Ski School (t +43.5243.20017 • e info@schischule-leithner.at • w www.schischule-leithner.at). They know every inch of the surrounding scenery and are keen to introduce you to the secrets of the sport. The ski school includes a rental center that includes everything you need for adaptive Nordic skiing. In the last few years, amenities for people with disabilities have been improved, including accessible parking lots next to the cross country ski tracks. Three quality-inspected accommodations for wheelchair users can be found in Lake Achensee Region: Replenish your energy at Sonnenhof Hotel & Apartments, at Wiesenhof ****S Hotel or at Apart Garni Alpenperle.
The novice terrain in Pertisau is perfect to help you get started. The gently rolling terrain has only one easy descent and is just the right place to learn the basics of the sport. The easy Buchau Maurach XC Ski Track features a modest ascent; the efforts of climbing, however, are highly rewarded with stunning views of Achensee Lake.
