Situated on a plateau in the Thierseetal Valley in the heart of the Brandenberg Alps, the Thiersee is a charming mountain lake fed by natural spring water and home to a large fish population.
The backdrop is as spectacular as the lake itself, dominated by the Pendling mountain which draws many hikers and climbers in summer. During the warm months of the year the water reaches a pleasant 24°C and is perfect for swimming and boat trips.
Speaking of boats, there are many water craft for hire on the northern shore – including pedalos, rowing boats and dolphin boats – which can be used to visit the water lilies and the tall reeds home to many aquatic birds. More action-packed activities include a water slide, a diving tower, an aqua jump and beach volleyball, while families with younger children will enjoy the play area. Accommodation is available at the lakeside campsite.
Visitors wishing to get away from it all can walk around the lake and stop off at one of the many secluded spots for a romantic picnic before returning to the eastern shore where the main swimming and leisure activities are. The circular walk around the lake takes around one hour.
