Clear, clean water is practically the trademark of Tyrol's bathing lakes. The water quality of all lakes is consistently very good, often even comparable to that of drinking water and therefore very refreshing. This is demonstrated by the 28 Tyrolean bathing lakes that have been tested as part of the EU bathing water monitoring program and whose water quality is constantly checked.
Depending on the size and location of the lake, the temperatures of Tyrol's bathing lakes vary greatly: on average between 19°C and 25°C. The lakes range from sparkling cool to pleasantly warm in summer. In addition to the higher mountain lakes, Tyrol's largest lake, Lake Achensee, or the idyllically situated Lake Vilsalpsee in the Tannheimer Tal are also considered the coldest bathing lakes. Its water temperature often does not reach more than 17 degrees. The warmest bathing lakes, on the other hand, reach much higher temperatures. The Schwarzsee near Kitzbühel, for example, has temperatures of up to 27 degrees in the summer months, the Walchsee in Kaiserwinkl up to 24 degrees and the Natterersee near Innsbruck warms up to 25 degrees.
