Lake Pillersee near the village of St. Ulrich in the Kitzbühel Alps takes its name from the Pillerseetal Valley where it is located. This haven of peace and quiet is surrounded by beautiful mountains with many activities for all the family.
Swimming in the Pillersee is for hardy souls only. Even in summer the water temperature rarely exceeds 20°C, making it ideal for a refreshing (albeit relatively short!) dip on hot summer’s days before lying down in the sun to warm up again.
Those in search of a little exercise can explore the network of walking trails leading around the lake as far as the village of St. Ulrich at the northern end of the lake, where there is a 15th century church of pilgrimage (St. Adolari) featuring a ribbed vault with beautiful paintings.
The swimming area with a snack bar, toilets and changing cabins is located on the north-eastern shore. Here visitors can hire rowing boats and pedalos from the Seerestaurant Pillersee or Toni's Seestüberl. There is a beach volleyball court next to the lake.
Guests keen to extend their vocabulary in German should learn the word “pillern”, which is an expression used by locals to refer to the lake when its waters are whipped up into high waves by the strong prevailing wind.
