May is normally a little too early in Tirol to start thinking about digging out the swimming trunks and heading for the nearest lake, but Lake Lauchsee near Fieberbrunn in the Pillerseetal Valley is a top tip for those who just can’t wait for summer to arrive.
On hot days the Lauchsee warms up very quickly, so it is little wonder that it is one of the most popular lakes in Tirol when spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. The lake’s water is filtered through natural moor land and is said to combat rheumatism, tense muscles and back pain.
Just as soothing as the water is the view of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains, the Kitzbühel Alps and the Loferer Rocky Mountains. The lake itself is surrounded by large sunbathing lawns between areas of open forest. The Lauchsee has all the modern facilities you would expect, including changing cabins, parasols and deckchairs for hire, a lifeguard, and a restaurant selling drinks, snacks and ice creams. Children and teenagers will find plenty to see and do. Highlights include water trampolines, a play area, table tennis, table football, volleyball and a separate area for toddlers and other non-swimmers.
Fishing is permitted on the southern shores of the Lauchsee, but only on days when the lake is closed to swimmers.
