The Frauensee (literally women's lake) is a small lake up to 40m deep in places. Contrary to what its name may suggest, it is open both men and women!
Hidden away in the municipality of Lechaschau near Reutte, the Frauensee lies at the foot of the Gehrenspitze mountain in the Tannheim Mountains. This idyllic location makes it an ideal place to get away from it all and relax in beautiful natural surroundings. The Frauensee, whose name literally translates as Women’s Lake, can be easily reached from the villages of Lechaschau and Oberletzen and is popular with swimmers in summer as it reaches a pleasant 24°C.
In the area around the lake visitors will find sunbathing lawns with plenty of trees providing shade on hot days. Activities include inline skating, horseriding, canyoning and even the chance to see the region from a bird’s eye view in a glider. The Frauensee is one of four lakes making up the Four-Leaved Clover, a collection of four lakes around Reutte which also includes the Plansee, Heiterwangersee and Urisee. Nearby Lechaschau is the ideal base for sailors, divers and surfers, though the Frauensee itself is reserved for swimmers only.
Access to the Frauensee is free of charge all year round. Next to the lake there is a seminar building that hosts interesting events about nature and art in the region. The Frauenseestube restaurant serves traditional food.
