Despite its name, there are no bananas growing on the shores of the Bananensee near Schwoich. This pretty lake opened in 1998 was the first biotope swimming lake in Tirol and is fed by a natural water clean enough to drink.
The lake was given its somewhat exotic name by locals in recognition of its banana-like shape. Covering an area of 2,300m² (1,140m² swimming area) and measuring 2.5m in depth, it is one of the smaller lakes in Tirol and averages a pleasant 22°C in summer. The lake boasts an idyllic location on the edge of a forest and has a large sunbathing area with plenty of trees offering shade on hot days. Swimmers can enjoy fabulous views of the Wilder Kaiser mountains.
