The Aigner Badl is not a swimming pool in the traditional sense of the term. Instead, it is a mineral spring resort where visitors can soothe tired muscles in larchwood bathtubs filled with water heated by natural underground thermal springs.
While you may not be able to swim at the Aigner Badl, there are few better places to relax. This mineral spring resort in Abfaltersbach in East Tirol dates all the way back to 1772. For centuries it gave local farmers without running water the chance to meet, chat and wash. Today it is a listed building with several beautiful larchwood bathtubs filled with naturally warm water from an underground spring with high levels of calcium sulphate. The wood-panelled rooms are equipped with four single cabins, two double cabins and a total of eight bathtubs. The calcium-rich water, which is heated to 38°C by underwater thermal springs, is known to help with aching joints, rheumatism and back pain as well as to speed up the wound healing process. The water is also said to accelerate the metabolism, so it is just as well that there is a snack bar next door. The Drau Cycle Path runs past the Aigner Badl and leads along the banks of the Drau river to Lienz, the largest town in East Tirol.
