Located on the edge of Lienz, the Hochstein mountain is one huge outdoor playground in the summer months. A cable car transports hikers, bikers and climbers up onto its higher slopes in just a matter of minutes. The Zettersfeld mountain on the other side of the valley is also well worth a visit.
The Schlossbergbahn cable car whisks passengers in just a few minutes from Lienz up to the Moosalm, a plateau with an adventure playground, a petting zoo, a restaurant, a minigolf course, a rock climbing area and a mountainbike park with several downhill trails. Another highlight is the "Osttirodler", a 2.7-kilometre summer toboggan run winding its way down into the valley. There is also the option of hopping on a chairlift and riding further up the mountain to the Sternalm, where a network of walking and hiking trails await. The top of the chairlift at the Sternalm is also the starting point for the walk over to the Hochsteinhütte.
On the other side of the valley lies Zettersfeld, another mountain resort with plenty to see, do and explore. There is an adventure playground for children as well as a petting zoo and even the option of taking to the skies and seeing Lienz from a new perspective during a tandem paragliding flight. There are also several trails into the Hohe Tauern National Park.
