The Hahnenkamm mountain above Kitzbühel plays host to the most famous downhill ski race in the world every year in January. During the summer months it is an outdoor adventure area perfect for families with children.
Follow in the footsteps of the world's best downhill skiers – that is exactly what you can do in summer when you visit the Hahnenkamm mountain above Kitzbühel. The mountain is easily accessible using the Hahnenkammbahn cable car. From the top of the cable car, it is just a short walk to the outdoor adventure area with its nine activity stations along the course of the Streif downhill run where the boldest and bravest skiers in the world do battle each January. The adventure trail begins at the start house at the top of the run and takes in the most famous points along the course: Mausefalle, Karussell, Steilhang, Brückenschuss, Seidlalmsprung, Hausbergkante, Traverse and Zielsprung. The stations include fun, interactive challenges such as balancing on a slackline, sliding through tunnels, climbing nets and more.
For all those keen on enjoying the full Streif experience in summer there is the Streif Hike, a 7.7-kilometre walk starting at the top of the world-famous downhill ski run and leading all the way down to the bottom. There are large monitors installed along the course showing action from some of the world's best skiers. There are also guided tours of the downhill run offered several times a week.
