The walk up to the Stoankasern Mountain Dairy and Snack Station takes around two and a half hours from the village of Juns in the Tuxertal Valley. Surrounded by lush pastures dotted with pink alpine roses, it is located at 1,984 metres above sea level. In the mornings visitors have the chance to watch the dairy farmers at work as they make a variety of dairy products using the milk given by the 100 cows which spend the summer in the mountains. Many of these delicious delicacies can then be found on the hut's menu – including cheeses such as Junsseer Rotschmierkäse, Bergkäse and Stoankaserer Bergtilsiter as well as fresh butter – and be eaten at the hut or taken back home as a special souvenir.
