Oetz Tower Museum

Oetz

A whole tower filled with artefacts, collected by one single men, gallery owner and passionate collector Hans Jäger. He has been collecting, recording, conserving and curating evidence from the past of Ötztal Valley for many years. Thus the Oetz Tower Museum has a large collection of genuine artefacts, sculptures and images, from the Romantic movement to modern day, with the focus on Alpine mountain landscapes. Original furniture, historic documents, photographs and folk art treasures give the visitor a flavour of what has happened at Ötztal Valley in time long past. The Ötztal Valley-related exhibits were put on display by Hans Jäger at his farmhouse in Oetz for many years, in his “Gallery of Old Oetztal”. Now they can be seen in a new light at the beautifully restored Tower Museum. Once the seat of nobility, this medieval structure with its narrow and winding corridors, chambers and recesses is an iconic sight in its own right. The museum provides a forum for the understanding of the diverse cultural traditions that exist within the area. This is achieved by making Hans Jäger’s rich collections available to the public. Passion is at the heart of everything he does.
