Embark on a journey through local history and deeply rooted traditions at the Museum at Widumspfiste in Fügen. The living exhibition in the village’s oldest building represents the Zillertal Valley's rich culture and history on four floors and has been awarded the Austrian Museum Seal of Approval. Featuring rare historical artifacts, visitors will see and hear the past come alive, and participate in recreating history. The centerpiece of the museum is the history of “Silent Night”, one of the world’s most famous Christmas carols that has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. After all, it was local Zillertal Valley singers who brought this song to the world. Visitors can retrace how “Silent Night” was developed and spread across Europe and the whole world. Fittingly, the museum is also home to the world's largest collection of "Silent Night" record discs. In addition to telling the story of the Christmas carol and those who made it famous, the museum offers changing exhibitions that chronicle local folk culture.
