Mariathal Basilica & Sculpture Garden

Kramsach

Mariathal Basilica is dedicated to Saint Dominic and like the monastery of the same name belongs to the Archdiocese of Salzburg. Legend has it that Knight Berthold von Fruntsprung went hunting with his brother who was killed by an arrow. In deep dispair, the knight wandered around the forest like a lost soul. Eventually, he found a picture of the Grieving Madonna which still can be admired in a chapel on the very place today. Within a few minutes’ walk from Marienthal Inn, which serves as a popular event location as well, the Kramsach Sculpture Garden is presented in a relaxed setting for your enjoyment. Take a walk in the outdoor sculpture garden next to Brandenberger Ache River to view sculptures created by local artist Alois Schild. The garden regularly hosts outdoor exhibitions and concerts that are free to enjoy, without an admission fee.
