Hinterloch Mill

Ellbögen

The restored Hinterloch Mill in Ellbögen is a 16th century farming mill that retains the rustic charm of yesterday by today’s show operation. The historic mill was rediscovered and refurbished in 1995-1996 and grinding demonstrations have resumed. Sitting on the banks of Falkasanerbach Creek, the water-powered gristmill offers visitors a glimpse of how life was lived in the rural Tirol during a time when the mill served as a vital center of 11 nearby farmsteads. Over the years, improvements at the historic site have included the construction of a nature trail system that leads visitors to the mill within a wonderful 20-minute walk. At Hinterloch Mill the unique heritage of water-powered gristmills is remembered and preserved. Relax afterwards with fresh, homemade farmer’s produce. Special guided tours for families and groups of 10+ are available by appointment. Please call Franz Peer at +43.512.376077.
