Hildegard von Bingen Herb Garden

An excellent demonstration herb garden has been created by the members of Hildegard Association in Reith. The delightful herb garden re-interprets the knowledge and writings of Hildegard von Bingen. Saint Hildegard von Bingen, a major twelfth-century mystic and prophet, was an outspoken visionary who wrote volumes on science, medicine and theology. She is credited with writing about nearly 2000 remedies and possessing a deep understanding of holistic healing. The garden’s medicinal and native herb plantings are intended to further the knowledge and safe use of herbs and herbal products. The 900 square meter field includes a recreation area, a barefoot trail, a massage trail and shallow water—a perfect place to brush away the cobwebs of daily life. A visit to the herb garden is a perfect introduction to Hildegard's deep understanding of nature and her holistic world view. Interpretative signage highlights the properties and medicinal use of the garden’s plants and herbs.
