The Zillertal Valley is quite simply one of the best places for skiing not only in Tirol but in the whole of Austria. Conditions remain good all the way into late spring thanks to high-altitude slopes on the local glacier.
Perched at the end of the Zillertal Valley, the Hintertux Glacier is home to the only ski resort in Austria open 365 days a year. Conditions on the slopes are excellent from early autumn all the way through until late spring. The largest resort in the valley is the Zillertal Arena, a huge network of pistes connecting four mountains and extending over the border into the neighbouring province of Salzburg. Skiers and snowboarders will find everything from easy blue slopes for beginners to challenging black runs for experts. Excellent skiing can also be found in Mayrhofen, Kaltenbach and Fügen, with the latter two particularly suitable for families.
