With gently rolling terrain and few steep hills, the Tannheimer Tal Valley on the German border is renowned as one of the best places in Tirol for cross-country skiing.
The gentle terrain on the border to Germany’s Allgäu region is very beginner-friendly: 98 out of 140 kilometres of trails are rated “easy” and have an elevation gain of less than 50 metres.
However, for easy-going skiers to competitive racers, Tannheimer Tal Valley has it all. The 31-kilometre-long SKI TRAIL loop, for example, takes avid cross-country skiers over the border into Germany. Every year this very trail plays host to one of Austria’s biggest cross country ski race events, the Tannheimertal Valley – Bad Hindelang SKI TRAIL (2021 cancelled). There is no fee to use the trails of the valley and the range of special services put on for cross-country skiers is exceptional.
