Idyllic valleys, alpine lakes and fabulous views of 3,000m+ peaks make mountain biking in the St. Anton am Arlberg region a special experience. Most of the trails here in the Lechtal Alps and the Verwall Mountains are rated intermediate or difficult.
Many of the mountain bike trails around St. Anton am Arlberg begin at the WellCom spa and leisure centre in St. Anton, but nearby Pettneu is also a good starting point. Some of the easier rides include the ascent through the gentle Stanzer Tal Valley along the slopes of the Lechtal Alps, for example to the Putzenalm hut or the Rendlalm hut in the northern part of the Verwall Mountains. Further south there is good riding in the Verwalltal Valley and the Moostal Valley, though bikers will need to be fit to enjoy the experience. Technical skills are required on the more challenging trails winding their way past mountain lakes – and at the end of most rides there is a hut where tired riders can stay the night. Riding in this region is a challenge for the legs but a treat for the eyes, with lush valleys giving way to glacier-capped peaks such as the Kuchenspitze, Patteriol and Hoher Riffler.
