The region around the villages of See, Kappl, Ischgl and Galtür in the Paznaun Vally includes three mountain chains: the Silvretta Mountains, the Verwall Mountains and the Samnaun Mountains. The Paznaun High Trail gives visitors the opportunity to explore all three.
The Paznaun-Ischgl Region is home to a wide range of one-day and multi-day hiking routes. From the village of Galtür it is possible to climb the 2,645-metre-high Predigberg in the Silvretta Mountains. Those in search of something a little easier can embark on the walk to the beautiful and remote Grübelesee lake, which lies south of Kappl in the Samnaun Mountains at an altitude of 2,100 metres above sea level. On the opposite side of the valley you will find the Verwall Mountains, a huge outdoor playground for advanced and expert hikers and mountaineers. The ultimate challenge is the Paznaun High Trail, a long-distance trek comprising nine stages and taking walkers around the entire Paznaun Valley. Stages 8 and 9 offer wonderful views of the Hoher Riffler from the Edmund-Graf-Hütte. Hikers in search of a duty-free bargain can even pop over the border into Switzerland on the Smuggler Trail in the Samnaun Mountains.
