The Seefeld Region has welcomed climbers for more than 100 years.
Though there are only a handful of climbing areas between Leutasch and Scharnitz, they include one of the most popular in the area around the regional capital Innsbruck: the "Chinesische Mauer" ("Wall of China"). Smaller but no less challenging is the Mauerbogen climbing area.
Sport climbing in the Seefeld Region
To the north of Leutasch lies the iconic "Chinesische Mauer", a sheer rockface visible from many miles away. With more than 170 routes, it is a real hotspot in the climbing scene. However, there are no routes suitable for beginners. Most are rated 7 or 8, making them only suitable for experienced climbers, while others contain difficulties such as overhanging sections. The smaller Mauerbogen climbing area further south is similar but has more climbing for beginners.
