Climbing, swimming and fine dining are all on the menu St. Johann in Tirol and the surrounding villages. Families in particular will enjoy this region in the heart of the craggy Wilder Kaiser Mountains.
The walk to the Grießbachklamm is great for families with children. It leads along the banks of the rushing Wildbach river and then into a cool gorge with secure walkways from which visitors can marvel at the thundering water carving its way through the rock below. The Hornpark high-rope adventure centre is a good place to test your nerve and your sense of balance many metres above the ground. On hot summer days there are outdoor pools in Oberndorf, Kirchdorf and St. Johann – some even have spa facilities such as a sauna and steam room. Foodies will want to visit the Schaukäserei Wilder Käser in Kirchdorf, a dairy farm and cheesemakers where visitors can learn how mountain cheese is made and even sample some of the produce.
