Mountain biking in the Kitzbühel Alps and Brixental Valley is a good way to practise your bike-handling skills. The region has a number of challenging singletrack trails as well as easier riding for families.
The mountains around Westendorf, Brixen im Thale and Kirchberg in Tirol are home to 800 kilometres of mountain biking trails. These lead around some of the most eye-catching mountains, including the Hohe Salve, or up to the summit – for example the route onto the 1,938-metre-high Pengelstein mountain. Advanced and expert riders will find plenty of singletrack trails in and around the Brixental Valley. In Gaisberg near Kirchberg in Tirol there are downhill runs leading through lush meadows, thick forests and fast gravel roads such as the Wiegalm Trail, the Gaisberg Trail and the Lisi Osl Trail. One of the longest singletrack trails in Tirol is the Fleckalm Trail, which begins at Ehrenbachhöhe above the village of Klausen. Novices and families will find easier riding in the side valleys branching off the Brixental Valley such as the Spertental Valley overlooked by the mighty Rettenstein mountain. Families will also enjoy the ride to the Gasthaus Steinberg at the end of the Windautal Valley and to Bichlach-Weiher near Kitzbühel.
