Kitzbühel is known for its legendary Hahnenkamm downhill race. You should take a look beyond and explore its stunning landscape on a winnter walk away from the slopes.
Most people who hear the name Kitzbühel automatically think of one thing: the legendary Hahnenkamm downhill race which takes place every year in January. However, the world-famous resort of Kitzbühel actually has plenty to offer away from the slopes as well. The local tourist office provides free guided snowshoe adventures and winter hikes where participants can learn all about the region and its stunning natural landscape.
Tip! There is a challenging winter hiking trail on the Hahnenkamm mountain secured with handholds and footholds as well as a wire anchored into the rock. It can be accessed using the Hahnenkammbahn cable car and leads to the Berggasthof Hochbrunn hut. Another high-altitude trail can be found on the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain and offers fabulous views of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains, the Großvenediger and the Großglockner, Austria’s highest peak. This trail can also be accessed using the local cable car. A special hiking ticket with a flexible fare is offered in the region.
