In the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps, around the legendary ski resort of Kitzbühel itself, walkers and hikers can look forward to plenty of ski lifts and cable cars leading up onto mighty mountains such as the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbühel Horn.
Kitzbühel is about much more than just skiing – in summer the Hahnenkamm mountain is home to many walks and hikes, including the chance to walk down (or up!) the fearsomely steep Streif downhill course where the world's best ski racers do battle each January. The reward for all that hard work is a fabulous panorama of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains and the Schwarzsee lake. On the opposite side of the valley is another iconic mountain, the Kitzbühel Horn with its famous broadcasting mast on the summit. It has a selection of walks and hikes, for example a family-friendly trail through flower-filled meadows home to hundreds of different species. Those who wish to "conquer" the Kitzbühel Horn can use the trail of intermediate difficulty leaving from the top station of the Harschbichl cable car.
