To find good pistes, you don't need to travel into one of Tirol's remote valleys. Skiers and snowboarders will find plenty of excellent slopes around the regional capital Innsbruck. There are no fewer than 13 ski resorts, including Axamer Lizum popular with freeriders, the family-friendly resort of Rangger Köpfl and the Stubai Glacier with slopes up to 3,210 metres above sea level. The range of skiing and boarding on offer is huge - each resort near Innsbruck has its own character, yet all 13 are covered by one single ski pass: the Ski Plus City Pass Innsbruck. This pass also allows holders to visit many of the best museums in the region, take the plunge in a number of swimming pools, use the local ski buses and check out the best sights in the city using the Innsbruck Sightseer tour bus. There can be few more Alpine dominated places in the world and Innsbruck is rightly known as the capital and heart of the Alps.
