Where the schnapps flows and medieval castles keep watch! The TirolWest Region and its cultural hub of Landeck are the ideal place for many activities and excursions.
Its location at the crossroads between the Oberinntal Valley and Paznauntal Valley in Tirol and the Stanzertal Valley extending west to the neighbouring province of Vorarlberg makes the TirolWest region an ideal starting point for many activities and excursions. At its heart lies Landeck, the region’s largest town and administrative centre, while to the north rise the mighty Lechtal Alps and to the south the foothills of the Ötztal Alps. Eagle-eyed visitors will notice many medieval castles perched high on hills and rocky outcrops keeping watch over the valley below.
Art and action in Landeck, peace and quiet in the Kaunergrat Nature Park
Famous for its plums, the Stanzertal Valley in the north of the region is home to numerous schnapps distilleries and a good base for exploring this western corner of Tirol. Landeck is the largest town in the TirolWest region and offers plenty to see and do, from museums and concerts to the weekly farmers’ market. The Kronburg pilgrimage church near Zams provides fine views of the Inntal Valley, while the Zammer Lochputz is among the most beautiful gorges in Tirol. Further south lies the Kaunergrat Nature Park with its large network of hiking trails. The “Gachenblick” visitors’ centre provides a fascinating insight into the nature park and its beautiful landscape.
The TirolWest region is easily accessible even to visitors without a car. Several long-distance hiking paths, including the international St. James's Trail, the Inn Cycle Path and the Via Claudia Augusta, pass through. In winter the region draws skiers and snowboarders to the family-friendly Venet ski area as well as the larger resorts of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Ischgl and St. Anton am Arlberg.
