The Hohe Salve region between Mariastein and Kelchsau may be relatively small but it is packed full of excellent mountain biking routes through quaint villages, remote mountains, lush meadows and uninhabited valleys.
The riding in the Hohe Salve region offers an interesting mix of countryside and culture. At the heart of the region lies the Hohe Salve mountain. To the north is the Mariastein Chapel, a popular place of pilgrimage, while to the south you will find the Kelchsautal Valley. Riders will good fitness levels can take on one or several stages of the KAT Bike, a long-distance mountain bike ride crossing the region. The first two stages lead from Mariastein near Wörgl all the way to Brixen im Thale, passing through forests, meadows, hamlets, bustling villages and wide valley floors en route. Families with older children can climb several of the local mountains on two wheels. The ride up to the top of the Hohe Salve is rated intermediate, but with almost 1,120 vertical metres and 37 kilometres of riding it may be a little easier with an e-bike!
