Mountain hiking, valley swimming or a journey back in time through the region's turbulent history? The northern part of the Zillertal Valley is a region full of contrasts. Food, arts, culture and action – take your pick!
Drivers, motorcyclists and roadbiker riders will want to check out the Zillertal Valley High Road, a twisting strip of tarmac winding its way through the mountains. EN route there are plenty of huts and restaurants serving hearty food with a side serving of alpine air. Some of the corners are pretty high and exposed, so leave any vertigo at home! Those in search of less adrenaline and more relaxation should visit one of the local swimming lakes and outdoor pools. Foodies can visit the Sennerei Fügen, a local dairy farm and cheesmakers where visitors can learn how fresh milk given by hay-fed cows is turned into the tangy mountain cheese typical of the Zillertal Valley. The local history museum in Fügen tells the rich musical history of the valley, while visitors with a head for heights should take on the outdoor adventure park in Kaltenbach.
