Mountain Biking in the Lake Achensee Region

There are 250 kilomtres of mountain bike routes around Lake Achensee. This region offers many challenging rides with fabulous views of the quiet valleys at the entrance to the Karwendel Valleys as well as the mighty peaks of the Brandenberg Alps.

The area around Lake Achensee, Tirol's largest body of water, is the perfect place for ambitious mountain bikers to test their skill and stamina. It is home to a number of stages of the Bike Trail Tirol and the Bike Safari Tirol, two multi-day routes crossing the region on two wheels. Riders heading into the high Karwendel and Rofan Mountains need good bike-handling skills. The Karwendelseilbahn cable car in Pertisau whisks riders and their bikes up onto the 1,491-metre-high Zwölferkopf mountain, which has a number of challenging trails leading back down into the valley. The area also has a number of singletrack trails such as on the Plumsjoch ridge en route to the Gerntal Valley. A slightly easier but nevertheless challenging option is the ride around the three Unnütz peaks from Achenkirch. This 26-kilometre ride climbs 700 vertical metres and offers fine views of the Seekarlspitze mountains and Lake Achensee itself.
