If its great cross country skiing you’re after, you’ve come to the right place at Lake Achensee. The region's 200km network of trails links the villages of Maurach, Pertisau, Achenkirch and the snowy Karwendel Valleys.
The region's hugely diverse terrain – from gently rolling hills on the shore of Lake Achensee to challenging steep climbs further into the Karwendel Valleys – makes it ideal for cross-country skiers of all abilities. Most trails are suitable for both the traditional Classic technique and the more modern and dynamic Skating technique. All are clearly signposted. All of the trails, except those in Pertisau, can be used free of charge.
The gentle terrain immediately next to Lake Achensee is perfect for beginners and those returning to the sport after a while away. There is even a special trail in Pertisau designed for those taking their first tentative steps on skinny skis. The Achensee Nordic Center in Pertisau, located at the gateway to scenic Karwendel Valleys, maintains a superb network of groomed and signposted cross-country trails. It even has a "dog trail" for those who enjoy nothing more than cross-country skiing with a four-legged friend!
