Despite ist name, Wildermieming is anything but wild. Instead, visitors to this quiet village will find lush meadows and green forests as far as the eye can see.
Wildermieming is situated on the sunny Mieming Plateau near the market town of Telfs and is home to around 900 inhabitants. As well as the somewhat unusual name of the village itself, there is a settlement within the village with an even more unlikely title: "Affenhausen" (literally "Monkey House"). However, the explanation is more simple than you may think: it comes from Saint Afra, the patron saint of waggoners.
In German-speaking countries the village is well known as the setting for the popular TV series "Bergdoktor". Many series were filmed in and around Wildermieming. One highlight which fans should definitely not miss out on is a trip to the traditional farmhouse which served as the "Bergdoktorhaus" where the dashing doctor lived. There is even a Bergdoktor Cycle Path from Telfs via Wildermieming and into the Gurgeltal Valley. Plenty of other trails are also available, many of which lead up to traditional huts serving homemade food high in the mountains.
Tip! Every September there is the Schölfeler Fest’l where local farmers present produce such as milk, cheese, dried bacon and schnapps together with "Schölfelern" (potatoes) accompanied by live music.
