The municipality of Waidring has a population of 1,900 and lies at the foot of the Loferer Rocky Mountains in the PillerseeTal holiday region.
To the north rises the Steinplatte mountain (1,869 m) where Tirol, the neighbouring Austrian province of Salzburg and the German federal state of Bavaria converge. In summer, the large plateau near the summit is popular with hikers and mountain bikers. It can also be reached via cable car. During the winter months this picturesque region can be enjoyed on skis in the nearby Steinplatte resort, which is particularly popular with beginners and families. There is also a snowpark for budding freestylers. Waidring itself has many typical farmhouses whose wooden balconies are a kaleidoscope of colourful flowers in summer. Other highlights include a swimming lake near the village and walks to the impressive Haslerschlucht gorge and waterfall at Reiterdörfl.
