Vomp is a market municipality around 30 kilometres east of Innsbruck, located at the foot of the majestic Karwendel Mountains.
Vomp lies near the town of Schwaz and has a population of just over 4,800. This municipality in the east of Tirol covers large parts of the Karwendel Nature Park and extends as far as the German border. Among its main attractions are Sigmundslust Castle, a former hunting lodge from the 15th century whose mighty tower can be seen from afar, and the Stift Fiecht Benedictine abbey. It is just a short drive to the St. Georgenberg church of pilgrimage, which can be reached from Fiecht via a walkway leading through the beautiful Wolfsklamm gorge. One of the most remote settlements in the Karwendel Mountains is Hinterriß and the nearby Engalm hut. The "Großer Ahornboden", comprising maple trees up to 500 years old, is also well worth a visit. Here, rock climbers will find the Laliderer Wände, widely considered to offer some of the best climbing in Tirol. Visitors can also visit Vomperberg, a good starting point for walks into the Vomper Loch – the "Grand Canyon of Tirol". In winter there is a large network of cross-country skiing trails in the Karwendel Mountains.
