Directly next to the Drau river, at the foot of the Rauchkofel mountain and close to the Lienz Dolomites, lies Tristach. It is one of several municipalities which surround the district capital of Lienz.
Tristach has a population of around 1,400 inhabitants and offers both outdoor enthusiasts and those in search of a little peace and quiet the perfect surroundings for an enjoyable holiday. Down on the valley floor and up in the mountains there are plenty of hiking trails connecting traditional huts serving delicious local food. Families with children can explore the Drau Cycle Path and the Isel Cycle Path on two wheels. Both are flat and easy to ride. On hot summer days there is nowhere better to cool off than at the Tristacher See, the only natural swimming lake in East Tirol.
Thanks to its proximity to Lienz, Tristach is an ideal starting point for visits to the district capital and its many attractions. One of these highlights is the Lienzer Schlossberg. It is known as East Tirol's "adventure mountain" and has plenty of things to see and do for all ages, including an outdoor play area, a petting zoo, a summer toboggan run and Tirol's largest climbing park.
