Thurn

The municipality of Thurn is situated just outside Lienz, the largest town in East Tirol, and is home to just over 600 inhabitants. Thanks to its fabulous views of the Lienz Dolomites and more than 2,000 hours of sunshine a year, Thurn is a popular tourism destination with a unique flair. Activities in summer include hiking and mountainbiking. Among the most recommended walks is the circuit around the nearby Tristachersee, the only natural swimming lake in East Tirol. In the flat region around the town of Lienz itself there is a 40km cycle path which takes riders through many pretty villages and offers plenty of chances to stop and enjoy the views.

Wintersports enthusiasts will find a wide range of pistes in the Zettersfeld ski resort above Thurn. Sunshine, cosy huts, family-friendly slopes and snowparks mean that the resort overlooking Lienz offers something for all ages and abilities. Those who want to get away from it all can enjoy ski touring in the mountains around Thurn.
