Stanz enjoys a sunny location near Landeck and is famous throughout Tirol and beyond for its many award-winning schnapps distilleries. In fact, this small village has more distilling licenses than houses!
Home to around 600 inhabitants, Stanz is known first and foremost for one thing: schnapps. At 1,000 metres above sea level it offers ideal growing conditions for fruits such as the "Stanzer Zwetschke" plum, which is turned into schnapps using a centuries-old method passed down through the generations. Once year the village hosts the "Stanz brennt!" schnapps festival in September, where visitors and locals alike can enjoy cakes, dumplings, jams and liqueurs all made from home-grown plums.
Stanz also gives its name to the Stanzertal Valley, which leads from the town of Landeck up to the Arlberg pass connecting the provinces of Tirol and Vorarlberg. Here and throughout the municipality there are plenty of hiking and mountainbiking trails to explore in summer, while in winter there is snowshoeing and the small ski resort of Venet.
