Located at the foot of the Karwendel Mountains, Stans is a village near the town of Schwaz. From here, visitors can walk into the Wolfsklamm, a spectacular mountain gorge with many waterfalls.
The Wolfsklamm is considered one of the most beautiful mountain gorges in the Alps and is connected by a series of paths and wooden walkways to the St. Georgenberg monastery. Almost 2,000 people call this quiet village in the east of Tirol home. In winter, wintersports enthusiasts can explore the local ski resort featuring a wide range of pistes as well as a funpark for budding freestylers. During the warm summer months the best place to cool off is in the local open-air swimming pool in the centre of the village. The Way of Saint James, a cross-border hiking trail ending in Santiago de Compostela, passes through Stans. Other attractions well worth a visit include Tratzberg Castle, which is accessible via an easy walking path. This enchanting Renaissance building was erected in 1500 and today still has much of its original interior decoration.
