Reith im Alpbachtal is the gateway to the Alpbachtal Valley and lies on a sunny plateau overlooking the valley floor. This village with 2,735 residents serves as the entrance to both the narrow and quiet Alpbachtal Valley and, at the same time, to the wider Lower Inntal Valley.
The many farmhouses in the heart of the village are decorated with beautiful flower displays. Indeed, in 1979 Reith received the title “Europe’s Most Beautiful Village in Bloom”. Attractions include Lake Reither See, an ideal place to cool off in summer, as well as the recently opened Hildegard-von-Bingen-Garten, a large alpine herb garden open to visitors. Popular hikes include those to the Kropfsberg ruins and Matzen Castle, which today serves as a hotel. Families with children will enjoy the Juppi Zauberwald round hike at the foot of the Reither Kogel mountain directly above the village. In winter, the mountain is home to a small ski resort ideal for beginners. Those looking for more challenging slopes can drive to the nearby Ski-Juwel Alpbachtal-Wildschönau ski area.
