Polling is a collection of houses and farmsteads in the Inntal Valley 20km west of Innsbruck. The village is made up of two settlements: Polling in Tirol, located on the valley floor at 615m, and Pollingberg on the mountain slopes above.
As its name suggests, Pollingberg lies higher up on the mountainside (860m) than Polling. The two villages have a combined population of around 1,000 inhabitants and a large number of visitors in summer and winter. Activities include hikes and mountain bike rides into the surrounding mountains as well as easier cycling along the Inn Cycle Path, which is popular with families. Pilgrims hiking the St James's Way also stop off in Polling to visit the parish church and chapels, some of which are protected buildings. Every December there is a "Krampuslaufen" parade combined with a theatre performance.
