Pertisau on the shores of Lake Achensee is known as a good place to cool off in summer, but in winter it is also home to a small ski resort in the mountains high above offering fine views of Tirol's largest lake.
Leaving from the village of Pertisau, the Karwendel-Bergbahn cable car gives skiers quick and easy access to a ski resort in the mountains above Lake Achensee. Up at 1,500 metres above sea level, on the Zwölferkopf mountain, awaits a small but perfectly formed ski area aimed mainly at families. Most of the slopes here are rated easy (blue) or intermediate (red). The local ski school offers group lessons for children keen to take their first turns on snow or improve their technique. There is a special area specifically for beginners to the east of the bottom cable car station, where kids and all other novices will find gentle gradients and plenty of peace and quiet. Further up, the Karwendel Bergbahn Achensee cable car offers wonderful views of the Karwendeltäler, a series of valleys between Tirol and Bavaria, while on the other side you can enjoy the glistening waters of Lake Achensee and the peaks of the Brandenberg Alps.
