The small village of Obsteig lies nestled in the rolling hills of the sunny Mieming Plateau above the Inntal Valley. It is surrounded on all sides by lush alpine meadows gently giving way to the mighty peaks of the Mieminger Mountains.
This municipality at 1,000 m is home to around 1,260 residents and attracts many visitors in summer thanks to its extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails. In winter it is popular with fans of cross-country skiing. As you drive along the road leading to the neighbouring village of Mieming you will see the 13th century Klamm Castle and its eye-catching tower which has featured several times in “Der Bergdoktor”, a long-running TV drama series popular in German-speaking countries. In the Klammbach gorge just a few kilometres away a 25m high waterfall thunders over the smooth rocks into the deep pool below. Other attractions include excursions to the Gurgltal Valley and the Fernpass, which is surrounded by several lakes. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the 27-hole course in Mieming. Alpine skiers can visit the child-friendly Obsteig/Grünberg resort, while cross-country skiers will find plenty of well-maintained trails criss-crossing the valley floor.
