One of several villages near Lienz, the largest town in East Tirol, Oberlienz is popular with visitors thanks to its sunny location and fabulous flower displays. It lies to the north-west of Lienz at 756 metres altitude at the start of the Iseltal Valley.
Oberlienz, Oberdrum and Glanz together form a popular holiday area which is home to 1,450 people. Their position above the valley floor provides outstanding views of the surrounding landscape and an excellent starting point for hikes into the mountains. One slightly unconvnetional activity on offer is llama trekking! There are also bike rides on the Isel Cycle Path and, in winter, skiing in Zetterfeld/Hochstein. Archaeological digs have revealed that the site was home to a Roman settlement known as Villa Rustica.
