The municipality of Nikolsdorf enjoys a sunny location north of the Drau river and to the east of Lienz, the largest town in East Tirol. It lies at 675 m altitude and is home to 900 residents.
From Nikolsdorf it is just 13 kilometres to Lienz and 3 kilometres to the neighbouring province of Carinthia. The main settlement in the municipality of Nikolsdorf is Lengberg with its impressive castle dating first mentioned in the 12th century. No less imposing is the mountain backdrop of the Lienz Dolomites, which can be explored on foot using the large network of hiking trails. Experienced hikers can take on the challenging peaks of the Kreuzeck Massif high above Nikolsdorf. And for those with a strong stomach and a head for heights, there is always the option of taking to the skies in a glider from the small airport in Nikolsdorf. A fantastic way to see the region from above!
