Niederndorf is located on the wide valley floor near the town of Kufstein, just a few kilometres from the Bavarian border, at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser Mountains.
It is home to around 2,600 inhabitants, with many visitors increasing the local population in both summer and winter. As well as the Waldschwimmbad swimming pool and the Wohlfühl-Forstmeile walking trail, Niederndorf has a number of religious buildings well worth exploring. These include the late gothic Margarethenkapelle chapel with traces of frescoes from the 16th century and more modern frescoes on its north-facing wall. Customs and traditions are very important in Niederndorf. Throughout the year there are many processions and celebrations, for example the "Thomasnacht" on 29 December when the locals celebrate the end of the year – two days before New Year's Eve!
