Münster is located on the north side of the Lower Inntal Valley and is surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Rofan Mountains. With a population of 3,250, it is one of the largest village municipalities between Innsbruck and Kufstein.
Its most beautiful buildings are two castles: Burg Lichtenwerth, which dates back to the 12th century, and Schloss Neumatzen on the opposite side of the Inn river. In summer, walkers and hikers are drawn to the 2,224 m high Vorderes Sonnwendjoch mountain and the crystal clear waters of Lake Zireiner See near the Rofanspitze mountain. The summits of both these mountains offer magnificent views and can be accessed easily on foot from the Bayreuther Hütte hut at the top of the Rofan-Seilbahn cable car. Rock climbing enthusiasts will find plenty of easy routes to explore in Grünsbach, while those who enjoy spending time in and around the water can choose between two lakes: the Reintalersee and the Berglsteinersee. Lake Achensee, the largest lake in Tirol, is not far away – or why not pay a visit to the local outdoor swimming pool? In winter there is the nearby larger Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau resort.
