The small village of Höfen is located on the banks of the Lech river in the Reutte Nature Park Region. It is home to a little over 1,200 inhabitants and lies just a few kilometres from the town of Reutte, on the edge of the Lechtal Alps basin.
It has gained a reputation over centuries as a centre of fine stuccowork, some examples of which are still on display today in the Maria Hilf church. Overlooking the village is the 1,938m Hahnenkamm mountain with its Höfener Alpe ski resort and hiking area. Popular throughout the year, it can be accessed via a cable car from the village both in summer and winter. It is only a short walk from the top of the cable car to the Lechaschauer Alm hut. In summer the mountain is also home to an alpine garden with 600 different flower species. Early risers should not miss out on the chance to take the cable car to the top and see the sun rise before enjoying a sumptuous breakfast in the restaurant. Höfen has the only glider landing strip in the area, and the local flying school offers guests the chance to enjoy the landscape from a bird’s eye perspective.
