With such a cheery village name and beautiful location, it is no wonder that this pretty village in the Stanzer Tal Valley is home to a happy population of 1,400 residents.
Perched on a high plateau at 1,006 metres above sea level near the town of Landeck, Grins enjoys a mild climate with plenty of sunshine. The village is a fine starting point for hikes, mountainbike rides and ski tours into the Lechtal Alps. The region is also famous for its excellent food and drink, not least the many schnapps distilleries in and around the village of Stanz. Visitors are invited to learn about the distilling process and sample some of the local produce. Less potent but no less tasty is the water from the drinking fountain in front of the village hall in Grins. It is particularly rich in suplhur and is said to have healing properties. This water is also used at the nearby Kneipp water therapy trail, where visitors are invited to wade through pools of cool water – the perfect way to stimulate the blood circulation to the limbs and to cool off on a hot summer's day.
